Hamlet Search Engine
About this search engine:
- It searches only the text of Hamlet and the marginal notes (the ones on the same page as the text).
- This is a Google search engine, so in the results, ads will come first, then what you are looking for.
- The results are presented in order of the frequency with which the search word occurs in a scene.
- An individual result will show, at most, only one example of the search term in context, no matter how many times it appears in the scene. Therefore, you may want to click to the selected scene, open your browser's "Edit" menu, and use the "Find" function to find all of the occurrences of your search term in that particular scene.
- If you are looking for a particular phrase, not just a single word, using more than one word, and putting the words in quotation marks, will probably get you there faster. For example, in a search of Hamlet, if you enter not to be (with no quotation marks) in the search box, the search engine will return "about 149 results." But if you enter "not to be" (with the quotation marks), there will be three results, and the first one will contain what you probably wanted: "To be, or not to be: that is the question."
