The Tarquin Lucius Tarquinius Superbus (also called Tarquin the Great or Tarquin the Proud) was the last of the seven legendary kings of Rome. Tarquin ruled between 535 BC and 510 BC. His eldest son raped the wife of a friend of Lucius Junius Brutus, who is credited with driving Tarquin into exile and establishing the Roman Republic. Marcus Brutus believed that Lucius Junius Brutus was his ancestor.
