Note to Julius Caesar, Act 1, Scene 2, "for the course"

Return
to
Julius Caesar,
Act 1, Scene 2
for the course: dressed for the race. —If Antony is costumed according to the Roman tradition of Lupercal, he is wearing only a thong of goatskin to cover his loins. It's hard to say just how this tradition would be interpreted on Shakespeare's stage.
