The opening words of the first scene are Sampson's: "Gregory, o' my word, we'll not carry coals" (1.1.1). He means that they won't take any guff from anyone. He goes on to brag about what a tough guy he is, but when he and Gregory meet some Montague servants, he becomes a bit timid. This is his only appearance in the play.
