Charlton Heston as First Player
"Come give us a taste of your quality, come a passionate speech" (2.2.432), Hamlet urges the players, and First Player recites "Aeneas' tale to Dido . . . where he speaks of Priam's slaughter." Hecuba, Priam's wife, runs through the streets weeping for her husband, and when First Player gets to this part of the speech, he weeps. Hamlet begins his second soliloquy by expressing amazement that the actor can weep for Hecuba. [Scene Summary]
